西門市場最初原為一片農田,於第二次世界大戰後才開始發展。1951年,新竹市政府在銀行周圍設立中央商場,並與城隍廟前的各種小吃攤、西安街的西門市場,共同組成熱鬧的商業區。在地人將此區域合稱為「西市仔」。位在西門市場中更有許多老饕念念不忘的美食,例如西市汕頭館、米粉湯等。

Simen Market was originally farmland and began to develop after World War II. In 1951, the Hsinchu City Government established the Jhongyang Plaza around the bank district, along with various snack stalls in front of Cheng Huang Temple, forming a busy commercial area. Locals refer to this area as "Sishi Zai." Within Simen Market, many culinary delicacies are beloved by food enthusiasts, such as Sishi Shantou Restaurant and rice noodle soup.
